Our teachers have undergone rigorous professional development on writing viable assessments. In order to accomplish this, we have greatly increased accountability for all students by raising standards, developing innovative teaching practices, and implementing better assessments and grading practices. Consequently, we work to ensure that every student graduates from high school well prepared for college and/or a career. Why is extra credit no longer accepted in high school? What is the value, or weight, given to the different assignment categories for each course? What is the difference between “checks for understanding” and “assessments” and what are examples of types of assignments I can expect to see for each category? Report cards will be determined by the following assignment categories: Checks for Understanding, Assessments and Final Exam. How does the conduct grade impact honor roll? We also say goodbye and thank you to Mrs. Melanie Palmer (kindergarten, music and targeted intervention teacher) and wish her all the best in her new position as Learning Leader at Eric Harvie School. Stop by the school this summer to see the progress!Ĭommunity: After over 2 years of virtual meetings, we were so pleased to invite our parent community back into the school for our Open House in April, assemblies and volunteering! We are excited to announce that construction of our Learning Circle outdoor classroom will begin soon. All students have benefited from being able to work with older or younger students through buddies and learning activities.Ĭollaboration: Working with School Council, we were able to provide residencies and experiences for our students including: Engineering for Kids, DrumFit, swimming lessons and Wymbin movement. We have a lot to celebrate as we reflect on the 2021 – 2022 school year.Ĭonnections: Our staff and students built strong connections this year even when we couldn't gather together, first with homeroom classes and then with the whole school, as health restrictions were relaxed. The last day of school is a day of mixed feelings – excitement for the adventures summer will bring and sadness when we say goodbye to the people we have shared the year with.
